Course on Magnetic probes

Magnetic measurements provide some of the most fundamental and essential information about a fusion plasma. They are essential for equilibrium reconstructions being an external, non-invasive, passive and robust diagnostic.

They provide Information about crucial global plasma parameters like internal inductance,li, position and speed displacement of current centroid, shape boundary, thermal energy, currents in the magnet coils and the magnitude of the magnetic fields confining the plasma. Additionally one can also extract some internal characteristics of the plasma and detect asymmetries caused by large-scale MHD instabilities.
